Green Wood Spoon Carving

Last Saturday saw me heading into the unknown. I was off to a new venue and to try my hand at a new craft.

Assington Mill, Suffolk was my destination. Green wood spoon carving was my course. The mill was lovely, the people friendly and the course excellent. By the end of the day, I had learnt many new skills and was clutching a very unfinished spoon in silver birch.

Over the last few days, I have whittled, sanded and oiled. My spoon is far from perfect, and may be a little large and curvy. But, I am very pleased with my efforts, and intend to try making more.

It started life like this log that we cut down.

Then after loads of work…it looks like this.
